Jo Clayton - Designs from the Woods is a working studio near Hawkshead Hill where one craftsperson transforms fallen timber into pieces that actually function as furniture and art. Walking in, you're immediately struck by the smell of fresh wood shavings and the sheer scale of what's on display - chairs, bowls, sculptural panels, all carved and shaped with a deliberate hand.

The appeal lies in watching someone who knows their material inside out. These aren't mass-produced items knocked out on a lathe; they're thoughtful, often one-off pieces where the grain and natural form of the wood drives the design.
