Jesus Green

A proper green lung running along the Cam, Jesus Green is where Cambridge comes to breathe. It's a straightforward nature reserve - meadows, riverside walks, and the sort of place where locals actually spend their lunch hours instead of just passing through. The Cam itself is the real draw here; you get water meadows on both sides, and in spring and early summer the wildflowers can be genuinely impressive if you know where to look.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not dramatic or showy - there are no rare birds to tick off or hidden waterfalls. What you get instead is a quiet riverside walk that connects reasonably well with Cambridge's wider footpath network. Families with young kids might manage an hour here before restlessness sets in; older children who actually like being outside will find enough to occupy them for longer.

Free to access, naturally. Allow an hour if you're just doing the main loop, longer if you fancy exploring the side paths or settling on a bench with a book. The best time is May through to July when the wildflower meadows are actually worth remarking on.

It sits well within a park holiday around Cambridge - you're only 3 to 4 miles from Cherry Hinton Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite and the other nearby sites. Use it as a morning walk before heading into town, or an evening stroll after a day exploring the colleges. Nothing fancy, but solid.
