Jenny Sober Plantation

The woodland at Jenny Sober Plantation sits just outside Leeds, offering proper woodland walking without having to venture far from the city. It's a straightforward forest - nothing fancy, just trees, tracks, and the kind of peace you don't expect to find this close to urban sprawl.

The main appeal is obvious: if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Haighfield, Moor Lodge, or Glenfield are all within a few miles - this gives you somewhere to stretch your legs without packing the car. The tracks wind through decent woodland, and it's the sort of place where you actually notice the seasons changing. Spring brings the green back; autumn turns it into a bit of a colour show.

Walkers will get the most from it. Kids might manage an hour or so before asking if they can go back for ice cream. This isn't a destination in itself - it's an add-on to a park stay, something to fill a morning when the weather's decent and you fancy a proper walk rather than sitting by the caravan.

Bring sensible boots if it's been wet; the ground can get boggy. No facilities that I'm aware of, so grab a coffee in Leeds before you head out. Allow an hour or two depending on how much wandering appeals. It's free to access and costs nothing but time - which, when you're on a caravan holiday, is usually what you've got plenty of.
