Jeanfield Park is a proper working nature reserve, not a manicured attraction with visitor centres and gift shops. What you get instead is access to wetland that actually matters - the kind of habitat that stops migrating geese in their tracks and keeps locals with binoculars coming back week after week.

You're walking through rough grassland and around pools where the reserve management takes its conservation work seriously. It's ideal for birdwatchers, particularly during spring and autumn migrations when the variety gets genuinely impressive. Families with older kids who can manage a couple of hours on foot will find it absorbing, though younger children might struggle with the lack of obvious activities - there are no playgrounds here, and honestly, that's part of its appeal.

Birders should plan for at least two hours, longer if conditions are good. The reserve runs free, which makes it an excellent addition to a caravan holiday based at Perth Caravan Park or the excellent Scone Camping and Caravanning Club Site just up the road. Go early morning for the best wildlife watching, and check conditions after wet weather when the pools are fuller and more birds move through.
