Ivedon Copse

The woodland around Ivedon Copse rewards a proper wander if you're staying anywhere near Honiton. It's genuine Devon forest - all tall oaks and mossy banks rather than anything manicured or signposted to death. You'll find yourself on quiet paths where the canopy does most of the talking, and on a decent day the light filters through in that particular way that makes you understand why people move to the West Country.

This isn't a destination attraction with a visitor centre and a gift shop. It's a place to actually walk, which means you need to come prepared - decent boots, map awareness, and a willingness to backtrack if a path fizzles out. Walkers and families after a proper forest hike will get real value from it. Young children might struggle with muddy sections in winter, but autumn through spring is when the woodland actually feels alive.

How long you give it depends entirely on how far you want to venture. An hour covers a decent loop; three hours gets you deeper in. There's no entrance fee that I'm aware of - it's just a case of finding a way in and respecting the land.
