Inham Down

There's something deeply satisfying about climbing Inham Down. It's not the tallest peak in Wiltshire, and the walk up from Pewsey isn't particularly strenuous, but it delivers proper views across the chalk downland that justifies the effort.

The down itself is chalk grassland - the kind of landscape that defines this part of the county. You get sweeping vistas of rolling hills, open fields, and on a clear day, sight lines that stretch for miles. It's genuinely lovely rather than dramatic, which actually works in its favour. No crowds fighting for the best photo spot.

Walkers will find this worth the trip. It's accessible enough for families with decent fitness levels, though small children might find the climb a bit much. Budget an hour to ninety minutes for a proper explore and to sit about at the top. The surrounding Pewsey Vale is excellent walking territory if you're after a longer day out.

There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of - bring what you need. Free access, obviously. Best visited in late spring or early autumn when the chalk grassland is at its best and the air's clear enough to actually see something.

If you're staying at Totteridge Farm or Hillview Park nearby, this is a natural bolt-on. Both sit well within striking distance, making it a decent afternoon outing without needing to trek far from base. Worth combining with a walk around Pewsey itself for a full day.
