Walking into Hunts Wood feels like stepping properly off the beaten track, even though Marlow is practically on your doorstep. It's a real forest - proper woodland with thick trees, winding paths, and that lovely earthy smell you only get when you're actually surrounded by it. The canopy does most of the work, filtering the light into dappled patches on the forest floor, and there's enough space to lose the crowds that cling to the better-known spots along the Thames.

This is a walker's place, straightforward as that. You're not here for facilities or interpretation boards - you're here for the paths themselves. An hour's wander is perfectly doable, or you can stretch it to two or three if you're the sort who likes to meander. Spring is lovely when the woodland floor comes alive, but it works year-round. The autumn light cuts through the branches in a way that feels almost cinematic.

It's the sort of spot that makes sense if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Shillingridge Glamping sits just 1.7 miles away, making it an easy morning walk before breakfast or an evening stroll to burn off some energy. Hurley Riverside Park, three miles out, gives you a different option if you want to combine woodland with riverside walks. Free admission, no faffing about with gates or paying, just proper forest access. Bring decent boots if it's been wet, and don't expect signposting - half the appeal is finding your own route through.
