Horsham itself isn't a single attraction - it's a proper market town that's been going for about a thousand years, sitting right in the heart of West Sussex countryside. The town centre has the sort of character you'd hope for: timber-framed buildings dating back centuries, a working market square that still hosts a farmers' market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and enough independent shops and cafes to make you lose track of time.

The real draw is the Causeway - a tree-lined pedestrian street that feels genuinely lovely on a sunny afternoon, lined with independent businesses and restaurants. If you've got an hour or two, the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin is worth poking around, though it's less about jaw-dropping architecture and more about the town's quiet history.

Horsham works best as a stopover rather than a destination in itself. You're here to wander, grab lunch, maybe do some browsing. Families won't find it desperately exciting - there's no theme park energy - but older kids and adults appreciate the genuinely lived-in feel. It's free to explore the streets and market square, though shops and cafes will obviously want your money.

If you're staying at Raylands Country Park just down the road, Horsham makes for a pleasant couple-hour break from the campsite. It's the sort of English market town that's increasingly rare - still functioning, still local, not yet entirely turned into a gift-shop version of itself. Worth the short drive from the park.
