About Horsehay Common
What you're doing here is walking. There's no visitor centre, no café, no car park attendant. Just you, the heath, and hopefully some of the local bird population if you're quiet enough. Walkers with decent boots will get the most from it; the paths can be boggy after rain, and it's the sort of place where a proper map helps. Birdwatchers absolutely love it - redstarts, whinchats, and various warblers make their homes here. Families with small children might find it a bit samey after half an hour unless they're genuinely into spotting birds.
Allow a couple of hours for a decent loop, though you could easily do twenty minutes if time's tight. Free, obviously. Late May through September is when it genuinely sings; winter feels rather bleak. If you're camping at Sytche Caravan & Camping Park nearby, this makes a cracking half-day walk that doesn't require driving further afield. It won't blow your mind, but it's a proper slice of Shropshire heathland that's rarer than people realise.
