Horse Shoe Point

The curve of shingle and sand at Horse Shoe Point really does look like something pinched from a geography textbook. This spit of land juts out into the Humber estuary near Cleethorpes, creating that distinctive horseshoe shape that gives it its name. It's a proper spot for a walk if you're after something different from the typical seaside promenade.

What you get here is raw coastline rather than manicured beaches. The shingle shifts with the tides, and on a clear day you can see across to the Lincolnshire coast from different angles as you pick your way around the point. Birdwatchers come for the waders and gulls, especially during migration season. Families with older kids might manage an hour or so poking about, though younger ones will get restless without a traditional beach to dig on.

There's not much infrastructure - no cafe, no facilities - so bring what you need. Access is free and the walk itself is straightforward enough, though it can get muddy depending on tides and recent weather. Time it for low tide if you want to explore properly. It works well as a half-day addition to a longer Cleethorpes visit, particularly if you're staying at Haven Cleethorpes Beach Holiday Park or the five-star Lakeside Park nearby. Worth doing once, though it's not the sort of place you'd return to repeatedly unless you're genuinely into the birdwatching side of things.
