Holy Trinity Minster (Great Paxton Parish Church)

The church sits quietly in Great Paxton village, a few miles east of St. Neots, and it's genuinely worth the short detour if you're camping nearby. Holy Trinity is a proper medieval parish church with real character - the sort of place that makes you slow down and actually look at the stonework rather than just ticking off another building.

Inside, there's a 12th-century nave that feels solid and unpretentious, with some decent medieval features if you're into that sort of thing. The chancel's worth a look too. It's not overwhelming or frantically ornate, which is rather the point - you get a sense of how these churches actually functioned as the heart of village life for centuries, not just as tourist attractions.

This works well for a quiet morning walk if you're based at St. Neots Camping and Caravanning Club Site or either of the Grafham Water parks nearby. It's the kind of stop that breaks up a longer ramble around the Cambridgeshire countryside without demanding hours of your time. Thirty minutes to an hour covers it properly, including a wander around the churchyard if the weather's decent.

You won't find crowds here or gift shops. Free entry as far as we know. It appeals most to walkers and anyone interested in modest medieval architecture - families with young kids might find it a bit slow unless they're genuinely keen on old buildings. The real charm is in how untouched it feels, a working parish church that hasn't been prettified for visitors.
