Holy Trinity and All Saints

The church sits in Winterton, a proper Norfolk coastal village about four miles south of Great Yarmouth, and it's one of those places that rewards the small detour off the main drag. Holy Trinity and All Saints is a fifteenth-century church - all flint and stone with a tower that dominates the flat landscape the way only East Anglian churches can. Step inside and you're immediately struck by the light flooding through the windows and the sense of actual space. The interior has that particular Norfolk feel: whitewashed walls, clear glass, and none of the clutter you find in some older churches. The craftsmanship in the woodwork - screens, pews, the lot - is genuinely impressive if you're into that sort of detail.

Walkers staying at Waxham Sands Holiday Park (just up the coast) will find this makes a logical stop on a loop back from the beach. It's a quick visit - twenty minutes if you're browsing, forty if you're reading every brass plaque. Families with kids will find it peaceful rather than gripping, which is either a selling point or a reason to keep walking, depending on your lot. The churchyard itself is pleasant for a wander and gives you a feel for the village's history.

It's free to visit, and the seasonal opening hours mean you've got decent access March through November. December to February you're restricted to daylight, so plan accordingly. What makes it work is the sheer authenticity - this isn't a heritage attraction in fancy dress. It's a functioning church that happens to have been doing its job since medieval times.
