Holtby Park

The beck runs clear through Holtby Park, and if you arrive early enough you'll have the place almost to yourself. This nature reserve sits just outside Northallerton, making it an easy detour from a caravan holiday at Pembroke or Kiplin Country Park without feeling like you're abandoning civilisation entirely.

It's woodland and grassland mostly - the kind of place where you actually see birds instead of just hearing about them. Walkers appreciate the quiet paths, and if you've got kids who need proper running space rather than another gift shop visit, this works. The reserve has genuine conservation credentials too, so there's a bit more substance here than just "nice to wander around".
