Holme Church

The church sits on a quiet lane just outside Shipley, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. Holme Church is a proper little stone structure with genuine medieval bones, though it's been tidied up and restored over the centuries like most parish churches have. Inside, there's the usual mix of old pews, a handful of memorials, and that particular smell of old stone and furniture polish that seems to follow you round every village church in England.

It's not a destination in itself, to be honest. You won't spend more than fifteen minutes poking about unless you're really into ecclesiastical architecture or Victorian restorations. But if you're staying at Two Acre Camping or Esholt Holiday Caravan Park and fancy a gentle afternoon walk, it's worth tacking on as part of a broader ramble round the West Yorkshire countryside.

Families with young kids might find it brief unless they're keen on graveyards - plenty of them are, mind you. History buffs will appreciate the medieval fabric if they peer closely enough. Mostly though, this is a church for people who like churches, and for everyone else, it's a fine excuse to get out of the caravan and into the fresh air.
