Hill of Greenskairs

The walk up Hill of Greenskairs rewards you with proper panoramic views across Aberdeenshire and out towards the coast near Banff. It's not a dramatic mountain - more of a substantial hill that gets you above the surrounding farmland and gives you real perspective on the landscape.

The ascent itself is straightforward enough, nothing technical, so it works well for families who don't mind a bit of steady climbing. The summit isn't crowded, which is refreshing. You get the feeling you've actually gone somewhere rather than queued for a photo opportunity.

Allow a couple of hours return if you're taking it easy and want time to sit about at the top. The approach is best from the Banff side, and you'll want decent boots - it can get boggy underfoot even when it looks dry from distance. Spring through autumn are your best windows, though the exposed position means wind is fairly constant.

For a park holiday in the area, it plugs neatly into a wider walking route. Gamrie Bay Caravan Site and Wester Bonnyton are both within easy reach, putting you close enough to pop up here as part of a day's exploring without it feeling like a major expedition. If you're staying at Shepherd's Loch Glamping or one of the other sites dotted around, you've got decent accommodation that lets you base yourself properly and tackle the hill without rushing.
