Hill of Beath

The walk up Hill of Beath isn't particularly demanding, but it rewards you with proper views across Fife that justify the effort. From the summit you can see right across the Forth towards Edinburgh on a clear day - the sort of vista that makes you understand why people have picked this spot for centuries.

It's a straightforward hill walk rather than a technical climb, which means families with school-age kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might find the trudge tedious if you're not lucky with the weather. The path is well-trodden and reasonably clear, though conditions can get boggy after rain. Allow a solid hour for the round trip from the car park.

There's nothing fancy at the top - no café, no visitor centre, just the hill itself and the views. That's rather the point. Local history types will appreciate the sense of place; it's been a landmark for Dunfermline folk for ages. On a grey Fife day it can feel a bit bleak, but catch it right and you'll understand why it matters to the area.
