Hilgay Heronry

The heronry at Hilgay sits quietly on the Great Ouse, about four miles east of King's Lynn, and it's one of those places you stumble upon rather than deliberately seek out. Grey herons nest here in loose colonies - the birds arrive each spring to rebuild their stick nests high in the riverside trees, a sight that doesn't get nearly enough attention given how dramatic it actually is.
