Highgate Common

You'll find paths crossing the common, though they're not always obvious - bring decent boots and a map because it's easy to wander off line. Allow a couple of hours if you're combining it with a picnic. The exposed position means weather changes fast, so check conditions before you head up.

Stanmore Hall Touring Park sits about six miles away and makes a natural base for exploring this corner of Shropshire. Highgate Common works well as part of a bigger walking day rather than a standalone destination - you're not looking at visitor facilities or interpretive signs. What you're getting is open country and views that stretch for miles when the visibility's decent. Worth the detour if you're already in the area. Less worth it if you're coming solely for the attraction itself.
