Hevingham Park

A few miles east of Norwich, this nature reserve is proper Norfolk - all reed beds, dykes and birdlife if you're into that sort of thing. Walking the trails here feels removed from the city noise, though you're barely ten minutes' drive from the centre.

What you're actually doing is picking your way along paths through wetland habitat. Binoculars essential if you want to clock the various warblers and occasional rarer visitors. In spring and early summer the bird activity is genuinely worth getting up for. Winter's less showy but quieter, which some prefer.

The reserve works best if you've got an interest in wildlife or you're after a decent woodland walk without the tourist crowds. It's not a "take the kids for an afternoon" sort of place unless they're already keen on spotting things. Most people allow an hour to ninety minutes depending on pace and how long you linger.

For a Norfolk park holiday, this fits in well between Top Farm Campsite and Moat Island Glamping - both are within a few miles. If you're staying at either, a morning here before heading to the Broads or into Norwich makes sense. Free access, though parking details aren't entirely clear so ring ahead or check locally in Norwich first. The paths can get boggy after rain, so decent boots aren't optional. Worth the diversion if birdwatching appeals; less so if you're just after a pretty walk with clear views.
