Hatton Hill

The walk up Hatton Hill takes about forty minutes from the car park near Blairgowrie, and it's genuinely rewarding without being punishing. You're looking at sweeping views across Perthshire's rolling farmland once you reach the top - the kind of vista that makes you understand why people spend weekends tramping about these hills.

It's a proper hill walker's spot rather than a casual family outing, though older kids who don't mind a steady climb will manage fine. The path is clear enough, and there's nothing technical about it - just straightforward uphill slog with decent views improving as you gain height. On a clear day you can see right across to the Tay valley.

The best time to go is late morning when the light's kind and you won't be fighting crowds. Allow two to three hours if you want to sit at the top and take your time. There's no facilities up there, so bring water.

If you're staying at Five Roads Caravan Park nearby, this makes for a proper morning expedition before lunch - close enough that you're not spending half the day driving, but distant enough to feel like you've actually done something outdoors. Blairgowrie itself has the usual services, and the walk is free. It won't blow your mind in the way some Scottish peaks do, but it's solid terrain with decent payoff.
