If you've got your clubs packed and a decent swing to show off, Hartlepool Golf Club is right on your doorstep when you're staying at Parkdean Resorts Crimdon Dene. It's a proper members' course, so you'll need to either be a member or arrange a visitor round in advance - ring ahead to avoid a wasted journey.

The course sits just outside Hartlepool town centre and plays to a decent standard without being brutally difficult. It's the sort of place where you'll spend a couple of hours getting genuinely tested without feeling like you've been through the wringer. Greens are well maintained, and the layout rewards straight hitting more than spectacular heroics.

Family golfers will find it manageable if everyone can at least hold a club properly. Absolute beginners might find it a touch frustrating, but decent amateurs should have a proper game here. You're looking at around four hours for a full round, maybe three and a half if the course isn't rammed.

The real selling point for a holiday break is the proximity to your accommodation - you're barely two miles from the holiday park, so no faff with travel on your precious days off. Combine it with a morning round and you've got the afternoon free for the seafront or whatever else Hartlepool's got on. It won't blow your mind, but for a convenient round during a park stay, it does the job without complaint.
