Halletshill Coppice

The coppice sits quietly on the outskirts of Worcester, a working woodland rather than a manicured attraction. This is proper forest - ancient, managed, the sort of place where you'll hear more birds than people. The trees are mixed hardwood, mostly oak and hazel, with a canopy thick enough to keep things cool even on warm days.

Walking through Halletshill feels like stepping back several centuries. Coppicing - cutting trees back to stumps to encourage multiple stems - has been done here for generations, and you can see the results in the thick, gnarled growth. There are paths winding through, though they're not always obvious; bring a map or a GPS if you're the cautious type.

It's honestly best suited to serious walkers and anyone genuinely interested in woodland management rather than casual strollers after a pretty afternoon. Kids might lose patience quickly unless they're the type who love clambering over fallen logs and spotting wildlife. Spring and early autumn are the times to go - wildflowers in May, and the light filtering through the leaves in September is properly magical.

There's no formal visitor infrastructure here, which is refreshing. If you're staying at Brook House Woods or The Rookery Woods nearby, it's a decent walk to clear your head before dinner. Don't expect signage or facilities - just take what you find and respect it as working land.
