Gunnersbury Park

The lake at Gunnersbury is what pulls you in first - proper glassy on a still morning, ringed with willows that actually look like they've been there for centuries rather than planted yesterday. It's 186 acres of genuine breathing room within London's sprawl, which frankly feels like a minor miracle when you're standing in it.

You'll find Victorian walled gardens that hint at grander days, woodland trails that fork off in different directions, and enough open grass to actually lie on without feeling like you're trespassing. The old Gunnersbury House sits at the heart of it, currently a museum but not essential to the visit - the park itself is the draw.

There's no dramatic scenery or show-stopping views, but the paths are well-maintained and looping, and you can easily spend two hours here without it feeling rushed or forced. Families with younger kids might find an hour sufficient - the playground is basic, the lake is pleasant to look at rather than swim in. Given Lovat Parks sits just 6 miles north, Gunnersbury works as a respectable day-visit complement to a park holiday - somewhere to properly decompress rather than another ticketed attraction. Best visited outside peak summer when it's less crowded.
