Grove Copse

A modest woodland patch just outside Bridgwater that punches above its weight for a quick forest walk. Grove Copse is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for, with a network of paths threading through mature trees and a genuinely peaceful atmosphere despite its proximity to town.

The woodland isn't vast - you're looking at maybe forty minutes to an hour to work through the main paths without rushing - but it's proper woodland, not some manicured park. The canopy is decent, the paths are clear enough, and there's actual forest floor underfoot rather than tarmac. It's ideal if you've got young walkers who need something manageable, or if you're based at Middle Stone Farm Glamping nearby and want an easy leg-stretcher without driving elsewhere.

June through August it can get a bit thick and muggy under the trees, so spring or autumn visits feel fresher. Winter's fine too if the ground isn't waterlogged. Free to wander, obviously - it's just woodland.

Honestly? It won't be the highlight of your Somerset trip, but as a break from the caravan or glamping setup it does the job. You won't find marked viewpoints or picnic areas, just trees and quiet. Some folk might find that frustratingly basic. Others will appreciate exactly that - somewhere to breathe without the tourist infrastructure.
