Grodwell Hill

The walk up Grodwell Hill rewards you with proper views across Perthshire - nothing flashy, but genuine countryside stretching away in all directions. It's a straightforward ascent from near Clackmannan, taking around an hour to the top depending on your pace and how many times you stop to catch your breath.

This is walker territory, full stop. The peak itself isn't dramatic - no rocky summit or dramatic drop - but that's rather the point. You get the sense of actually being out in the landscape rather than standing on some tourist-bagged viewpoint. On a clear day you can pick out the Ochils and the rolling farmland that makes this corner of Tayside worth the detour.

Family groups with capable legs will manage it fine, though younger children might find it a bit of a slog without the payoff of a summit cairn or café. History enthusiasts won't find much up here except the walking itself - it's about the topography rather than any heritage angle.

Bring proper boots. The ground can be boggy even after decent weather, and the path isn't always obvious. Allow three hours return including a proper sit-down at the top. Spring and autumn are best - summer midges can be relentless, winter can be proper slippy.

If you're based at Alexander House or another Perthshire park, this makes a solid half-day outing. It's not the sort of place you'd drive miles specifically to visit, but if you're already in the area exploring the region, it's well worth the walk.
