The converted Franciscan friary in King's Lynn has become an earnest little art space that punches above its weight. Walk in through heavy doors and you're immediately in a working gallery - local painters, sculptors, and textile artists cycle through exhibitions with the kind of thoughtfulness you'd expect from people who actually care about their craft rather than just shifting units.

It's not massive. You'll spend thirty minutes here, forty-five if you're genuinely interested in what's on the walls. The spaces are intimate, sometimes cramped, but that's part of the appeal - there's nowhere to hide from the work. The building itself is the real draw though. You get fragments of the original friary architecture, thick stone walls, that particular light you only find in old religious buildings. It feels properly Norfolk.

Historically-minded visitors will get the most from this. So too anyone local to King's Lynn who wants to keep tabs on what the arts community is actually making. Families with restless kids will find it a bit slow. There's no interactivity, no novelty factor - just art and silence.

If you're staying at Kings Lynn Caravan & Camping Park, it's a genuine five-minute walk into town. The Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club Site is further out near the royal estate, so less convenient for popping in. Worth checking current exhibitions before you visit - the rotating schedule means you might see something extraordinary or something ordinary depending on timing.
