Greenwich Meridian Line (Cleethorpes)

The line itself is just a brass strip embedded in the pavement along the seafront, easy to miss unless you know exactly where to look. It marks where the Greenwich Meridian crosses Cleethorpes beach - that famous zero longitude line that divides the world into east and west. You stand with one foot either side and you've literally straddled the planet. Silly, yes, but oddly satisfying.

It's absolutely free and takes about five minutes, which makes it more of a novelty stop than a destination in itself. Kids find it amusing for approximately the duration of a photo, then want to move on. History enthusiasts might linger to read the commemorative plaque and ponder the arbitrary nature of mapmaking, but most visitors treat it as a tick-box between fish and chips and the funfair.

The location works in its favour though. You're right on the promenade with the North Sea in front of you and a proper seaside town behind. Haven Cleethorpes Beach Holiday Park is barely a ten-minute stroll away, so it slots naturally into a coastal break without requiring any real planning. Combine it with the adjacent beach, the pier, or the boating lake inland if the tide's not right.

Best visited on a clear day when the light's good for photos. Winter mornings can be grey and uninspiring. Realistically, it's worth knowing about if you're already holidaying locally, not worth planning a trip around. A pleasant curiosity, nothing more.
