Gravesend Spiritualist Church

The Spiritualist Church in Gravesend is housed in a Victorian building that wouldn't look out of place in a period drama, all red brick and high ceilings. It's still an active congregation, so you'll find Sunday services and various meetings throughout the week - this isn't a museum piece, but a working church with genuine believers who are usually welcoming to visitors genuinely curious about their faith.

The interior is modest and dignified rather than ornate. There are readings and healing sessions on offer, and if you're interested in spiritualism as a practice rather than just gawping at architecture, there's real substance here. Honestly though, it's not a destination in itself - you won't spend more than thirty minutes inside unless you're attending a service.

If you're staying at Thamesview Camping just down the road near Tilbury, it's worth popping into town anyway to wander the Thames-side, and this church is a five-minute detour. The town itself has more industrial heritage than spiritual charm, but the church is a nice quiet spot away from the main drag. Best to ring ahead if you want to visit outside of service times - they're friendly folk but it's still someone's place of worship, not a tourist attraction on tap.

Really only for people with a specific interest in spiritualist practice or Victorian church buildings. Everyone else would get more from exploring Gravesend's docks or heading towards Rochester.
