Gordon Promenade

The Gordon Promenade runs alongside the Thames near Tilbury, offering a straightforward walk with proper views across the water towards the industrial sprawl on the other side. It's a nature reserve, which means birdwatchers and anyone keen on spotting waders along the mudflats will find it genuinely rewarding, particularly during migration seasons when the place comes alive with activity.

The walk itself is flat and accessible - no climbing, no drama, just a good stretch of leg with the river for company. On a clear day you can see right across to the southern banks, and there's something oddly compelling about watching the Thames go about its business here, all commercial barges and industrial backdrop. It won't blow your mind visually, but it's solid for an hour's wander if you're camping at Thamesview nearby and fancy a proper outdoor break from the caravan.

The promenade is free to access and works well as a morning stroll before heading elsewhere in the area - it's not the sort of place you'd plan a day around, but it's absolutely worth knowing about if you're based locally.
