Gold Down

Gold Down sits just outside Wareham and delivers what you'd expect from a Dorset peak - sweeping views across the Purbeck landscape without requiring a full day's commitment. The walk up is straightforward, nothing technical, and the summit rewards you with proper panoramic sightlines across the heathland and towards the coast if the weather plays ball.

This works best for walkers after a decent leg-stretch without the commitment of a longer ridge walk. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage it fine - the climb isn't brutal, though younger ones might find it a bit dull if you linger too long at the top. It's the kind of spot you tick off in an afternoon rather than make a day of it.
