Glenleigh Park

The walk through Glenleigh Park takes you into proper woodland with streams running beneath ancient trees. It's a nature reserve near Sticker that feels genuinely wild for somewhere so close to holiday accommodation - you'll spot birds, find evidence of badgers and deer if you're lucky. The trails aren't demanding, just pleasant ambling routes through bracken and oak. Most people spend between one and two hours here without rushing.

This works well for families with children old enough to enjoy muddy paths without needing constant distraction. Serious birdwatchers will want to come at dawn. It's quiet in a way that makes you wonder why more people aren't here. You could easily combine it with Tregarton Park or Treveague Campsite stays - both are within easy driving distance, so Glenleigh becomes a morning or afternoon detour rather than a full day out.

No facilities to speak of, so bring water. There's no entrance fee (standard for Cornish nature reserves), and you can turn up whenever you like. The streams are best after rain when they've got some character. Summer gets busy with families, but push into autumn and you'll have it almost entirely to yourself. It's not dramatic or showy - just a solid bit of Cornish woodland where you can properly breathe.
