About Girton Wood
This works best for walkers who want some real woodland atmosphere without driving far from Cambridge. Families with older kids who enjoy exploring will get hours out of it; younger ones might find it a bit samey after twenty minutes or so. The main appeal is the peace - you're genuinely away from urban noise, spotting woodland birds and the occasional deer if you're lucky.
Allow a couple of hours if you're doing a proper circuit. There's no entrance fee that I'm aware of, and it's the sort of place you can visit whenever it suits you. The wood itself is free to roam, though it's worth respecting that you're in a working woodland environment.
If you're staying at Cuckoo Fen Campsite a few miles away, this makes an excellent morning or afternoon outing between longer explorations. It's nowhere near as polished as some of the more manicured attractions around Cambridge, but that's rather the point. Real woodland, proper peace, and genuinely worth the short drive.
