Walking along Somerset's coast near Burnham-on-Sea, you'll spot this elevated vantage point that locals simply call 'Gate'. The viewpoint sits on raised ground offering sweeping views across the Bristol Channel towards Wales on clear days.

Families staying at nearby holiday parks like Warren Farm or Diamond Farm will find it's a pleasant 20-minute walk from most accommodation. The path isn't particularly challenging, though it does climb steadily - nothing that'll trouble reasonably fit children over eight.

What you get is a proper panoramic vista taking in Burnham's distinctive lighthouse, the mudflats at low tide, and on exceptional days, the Welsh coastline shimmering in the distance. It's one of those spots that rewards early risers - sunrise here can be absolutely stunning when the weather cooperates.

Don't expect facilities or interpretation boards. This is very much a natural viewpoint rather than a developed attraction. Allow 45 minutes for the round trip from town, longer if you want to sit and take in the scenery properly.

For families based at Golden Sands or Beachside Holiday Park, it makes a nice morning expedition before heading to Brean's beaches. The view changes dramatically with the tides, so it's worth checking tide times - high tide gives you that classic seascape look, while low tide reveals the fascinating patterns of the mudflats below.
