Gaskell Recreation Ground sits just outside Much Wenlock in Shropshire - a low-key nature reserve that won't gobble up your afternoon but makes a decent leg-stretch if you're camping nearby. It's the kind of place you stumble onto rather than plan for, with woodland paths, open grassland, and enough greenery to feel properly removed from the caravan park without needing to drive far.

The ground itself is modest - think local nature reserve rather than scenic destination. You'll find wooded areas mixed with meadow, and it's genuinely useful if you've got kids who need to burn energy or if you fancy a quiet walk before heading back to Sytche Caravan & Camping Park, which sits just a few minutes away. The paths are manageable and not demanding, so even younger walkers or those after a gentle stroll won't struggle. Wildlife spotters might get a kick out of it, but come expecting small-scale nature watching rather than any dramatic encounters.

It's free to access, as these things usually are. Allow an hour maximum unless you're really into it - most people will have seen what's on offer well before that. Early morning visits tend to be quieter. If you're based at Lower Hill Campsite or any of the other parks within a few miles, this works as a useful morning activity before heading into Much Wenlock proper for lunch and the market square. Winter can be muddy, so decent boots worth bringing.
