Garston Park

You'll find Garston Park just east of Watford, a local green space that does exactly what it says on the tin - gives you somewhere decent to stretch your legs without faffing about with entrance fees or opening hours. It's open round the clock, which means you can wander through at dawn if you fancy it, or pop in for a quick evening stroll after work.

The park itself is straightforward: grass, trees, the sort of place where locals actually go rather than tourists with cameras. There's space to kick a ball about, sit on a bench and actually think, or walk the perimeter if you need a proper constitutional. It won't blow your mind, but that's rather the point - it's functional and free, which beats sitting indoors in Watford.

Families with kids will get a decent hour out of it, though don't expect playgrounds or fancy facilities. Walkers will find it a reasonable pit-stop between Watford town centre and the quieter bits of Hertfordshire. History buffs won't find much to sink their teeth into here - it's modern parkland, not some medieval ruin.

If you're based at Frogmore Park Homes (2.6 miles away) or North Hill Farm (5.9 miles), Garston Park works as a quick break from the caravan rather than a destination in itself. Combine it with a proper walk along the River Gade or into Watford's town centre and you've got a half-day sorted. Worth the detour if you're in the area, but not worth driving across the county for.
