The paths are well-maintained and manageable for families with kids, though it's not a destination for toddlers in buggies. Allow an hour minimum, two if you're a proper nature type who stops to identify plants and check for dragonflies.

Histories buffs might notice the name - there was a medieval friary here once, though you won't see dramatic ruins. What you get instead is the landscape itself, which carries that history without needing a visitor centre to explain it.

If you're based at Witham Grange Glamping or Milestone Caravan Park just outside Newark, this is a solid rainy-day option or a gentle morning walk before heading to bigger attractions. It's free, unremarkable in the best way, and you'll have the paths largely to yourself on weekdays. Not Instagram-worthy, but genuinely restorative. Worth the detour if you're already in the area, probably not worth planning your entire trip around.
