Fox Grove

Fox Grove sits just outside Minehead, a proper woodland walk through Somerset's coastal fringes. It's the kind of place where you can lose an hour without really trying - dense enough to feel like proper forest, but compact enough that you won't get lost. Footpaths wind through the trees, and depending on which route you take, you'll either brush past the main attractions or stumble on them accidentally.

The draw here is straightforward: if you're camping at Hoburne Blue Anchor or Warren Bay just down the road, this beats driving elsewhere for a forest stroll. Kids will engage with it for a solid hour or so, particularly if they're the type to chase along paths and hunt for fallen branches. Adults looking for a proper hike with views and challenge will find it a bit tame. There's nothing fancy - no visitor centre, no facilities I could spot, no admission fee that I'm aware of. It's free-access woodland, which is either lovely or a bit sparse depending on what you want from your day.

Timing-wise, pop in mid-morning or early afternoon if you're based at one of the nearby parks. It slots nicely into a day that includes Minehead town itself or the beach. The paths can get muddy after rain, so go in dry weather and wear decent shoes. For families at Butlins Minehead or Haven Doniford Bay, it's close enough to be worth half a day, but honest to god, don't expect anything more than a walk through trees.
