The Flight gallery sits just outside Hillsborough, in what feels like proper art-world territory despite being tucked away in Lisburn and Castlereagh. You're looking at contemporary work here - installations, paintings, sculptures - the sort of place where you actually have to concentrate rather than just wander through snapping photos.

It's genuinely worth an afternoon if you're camping at Lakeside View or staying anywhere nearby. The space itself is well thought out, not one of those converted barns that's half storage unit, half gallery. Plan on two hours minimum, longer if you're the type to read every wall text. Photography buffs especially get a lot from it, but anyone after something beyond the usual park-and-castle circuit will find themselves engaged here.

The admission situation isn't entirely clear from their end - worth ringing ahead to check entry fees and whether you need to book. Winter hours can be patchy, so don't assume it's open Tuesday mornings. Hillsborough itself is five minutes down the road, which means you could easily combine this with a walk around the castle grounds or grab lunch in town.

If you're doing the caravan park loop around this part of Northern Ireland, Flight breaks up the routine nicely. It's not a massive detour, but it does ask you to make an effort. That's rather the point.
