The library in Finedon is one of those small-town reading rooms that actually rewards a visit if you're staying in Northamptonshire and fancy something low-key. It's a proper community space - the sort of place where regulars nod at each other and the librarian knows exactly which section you're heading for. You'll find the usual mix of fiction, local history, and reference materials, plus they run a reasonable selection of newspapers and magazines. It's not vast, but then it doesn't pretend to be.

Who should bother? If you're travelling with kids, this won't fill an afternoon - thirty minutes tops, unless they're genuinely mad about reading. It's far better suited to adults who want to escape the weather for a bit, or anyone interested in local Northamptonshire history. The opening hours are a touch awkward (closed Monday and Tuesday entirely), so plan ahead if you're timing a visit around other activities.

Finedon itself is a small village about five miles north of Northampton, so if you're based at Northfield Farm - the excellent holiday park just down the road - it's a quick drive or decent walk if the weather's decent. Worth pairing with a proper park day rather than treating it as a destination in itself. The real value is as a rainy-day backup when the wider Northamptonshire leisure options aren't appealing.
