Findochty Harbour

The working fishing harbour at Findochty is the real deal - not a visitor attraction dressed up as one, but an actual, functioning port where boats still come and go. You'll stand on the quay watching trawlers unload their catch, smell the salt and diesel, hear the clang of metal and shout of fishermen. It's authentic in a way theme parks can never be.

The harbour itself is small and compact, which works in its favour. The stone walls date back centuries, and the whole setup feels properly Scottish Highland - weathered, no-nonsense, built to withstand the North Sea. On a clear day you get decent views across the Moray Firth. Most people spend twenty minutes to an hour here, wandering the edges, watching the boats, maybe grabbing photos. It won't exhaust you, but it won't bore you either if you're the sort who enjoys real working landscapes.

Findochty sits just outside Buckie, making it an easy add-on to a coastal wander rather than a standalone trip.
