Feuside Hill

The walk up Feuside Hill rewards you with one of those rare Scottish views that actually justifies the climb. From the top, you're looking out across Renfrewshire's rolling countryside towards the Clyde Valley - proper moorland territory once you're up there, despite being only a stone's throw from Lochwinnoch.

It's not a dramatic peak by any measure. The ascent from the village takes maybe forty minutes at a reasonable pace, and the summit itself is fairly modest - but that's precisely why it works so well. You get genuine solitude without needing to book a guide or spend a full day grafting up a mountain. The path is well-trodden and obvious enough that you won't go wrong, though it can be boggy after rain, so decent boots matter.

This is dead good for families with older kids or anyone after a gentle moorland walk without the commitment of the higher Lowland hills. The views reward your effort without making you suffer for them. On a clear day you can pick out landmarks for miles around.

Feuside fits nicely into a Renfrewshire visit - it's the sort of place to tackle on a weekend afternoon while staying at The Pods at Auchenhean, which sits just a few miles south. No facilities at the summit itself, so bring water. Free to access, completely open access land. Go midweek if you want peace, though weekends draw a steady crowd of local walkers who clearly know what they've got.
