Faversham Miniature Railway

A narrow-gauge railway that runs through the Kent countryside just outside Faversham - this is proper miniature railways done with real attention to detail. You board tiny steam and diesel locomotives on a track that loops through woodland and across open ground, the whole experience feeling like you've stumbled into someone's elaborate garden hobby that's somehow been turned into an actual visitor attraction.

The journey itself takes around 20 minutes or so, which is enough time to enjoy the ride without it dragging. The trains are genuinely small - you're sitting in scaled-down carriages, knees practically at your chin if you're much over six foot tall. But there's something oddly charming about it. Adults without a particular interest in railways might find it a bit brief, though the surrounding woodland is pleasant enough for a walk beforehand.

Worth fitting in if you're camping nearby - Painters Farm Camping Site is barely a mile away - and combining with a wander around Faversham's decent high street. Don't expect a day's worth of activity, but as a quirky half-hour diversion on a Kent coast holiday, it works.
