Farming Yesteryear is exactly what its name promises: a sprawl of vintage tractors, combine harvesters, and farm machinery from the golden age of British agriculture, spread across a field near Perth. You're walking through the mechanical guts of how farming actually worked before contractors and contractors' contractors took over everything.

It's brilliantly straightforward stuff. Old John Deeres, Masseys, Fordsons - the machines people's grandfathers would have spent dawn to dusk operating. For anyone who grew up around farms, or whose grandparents did, there's real meat here. Tractor enthusiasts will lose whole afternoons photographing every rivet. Children get it too, especially if you time it right and catch a working demonstration.

This isn't a polished museum with carpeted galleries and gift shops. It's more honest than that - farmers and collectors have simply parked their machinery and opened the gates. The experience depends entirely on conditions: muddy field in winter versus pleasant sprawl in summer makes a difference.

It works brilliantly alongside any Perthshire caravan trip. Scone Camping is practically on your doorstep at half a mile, and even Perth Caravan Park at two and a half miles is manageable. You're close enough to Perth itself for proper meals and towns, but far enough out that you feel like you're seeing something real. Allow two to three hours and wear decent boots. Not revolutionary, but entirely worthwhile if vintage tractors are your thing.
