Farm Copse

Farm Copse is a proper woodland walk just outside Newbury, the kind of place you'd stumble upon if you were exploring the quieter corners of Hampshire rather than chasing the obvious attractions. It's a small forest - nothing massive - but dense enough that you feel properly removed from the surrounding farmland the moment you step in.

The appeal here is straightforward: shaded paths, a bit of wildlife spotting if you're lucky, and the chance to stretch your legs without queuing or paying entry fees. The undergrowth is thick in places, so it's particularly good in summer when the canopy keeps things cool. Winter visits work too, though the paths get muddy.

This is walker territory, really. You won't find playgrounds or facilities, so families with very small kids might find it unrewarding after half an hour. History buffs won't get much out of it either - it's just woodland, no ancient monuments or ruins. But if you're staying at Hollington Park Glamping nearby and want a proper walk without driving anywhere, Farm Copse does the job. Allow an hour to two hours depending on how thoroughly you fancy exploring.

The real value is as part of a wider ramble through the Newbury area. It's not worth a special trip on its own, but it's exactly the sort of local woodland that makes a park holiday feel less constructed and more connected to the actual landscape you're visiting.
