Fairy Dell Paddling Pool

A shallow paddling pool that's been keeping young kids cool for decades, Fairy Dell is the kind of place you'd stumble upon while walking from the seafront toward Skegness town centre. It's not glamorous - think basic, functional, proper old-school seaside - but that's rather the point. The pool itself is small enough that toddlers and early primary-age children can splash about safely without parents having heart palpitations. There's usually a gentle slope into the water, and the whole setup feels charmingly low-key compared to the throng at Butlins or Haven just down the road.

This works best for families with children under eight who just need twenty minutes of water time without the fuss of a full water park. The nearest town, Skegness, means you're spoiled for seaside facilities - ice cream shops, fish and chips, proper beaches - so Fairy Dell sits nicely as a quick stop rather than a destination in itself. If you're camping or caravanning at Grange Farm Campsite five miles out, or staying at one of the big holiday parks on your doorstep, it's a natural addition to a morning at the beach.

The catch? It can get rammed on sunny bank holidays, and there's precious little shade. Go mid-week in early summer for a proper pleasant experience. It won't blow your mind, but it'll tire the kids out for an hour, which frankly is half the battle with a seaside holiday.
