Every's Copse

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Every's Copse sits just outside Taunton and offers exactly what you'd want from a Somerset forest - quiet paths, mature trees, and the kind of peace that makes you remember why you came to the countryside in the first place.

It's straightforward stuff. You walk through woodland, spot the occasional clearing, breathe in the damp air. The copse isn't vast - you can cover the main paths in an hour or so - but that's rather the point. This is somewhere to stretch your legs between other activities, not spend an entire afternoon. The paths are decent enough underfoot, though wet weather will test your boots.

Families with younger kids might find it a touch dull on its own, though a short ramble here works nicely if you're combining it with time at one of the nearby parks. The caravan sites at Ashe Farm and 5 Acres on the Somerset Levels are close enough that you could easily make Every's Copse part of a broader day out exploring the local walking routes.

Historically minded visitors won't find plaques or interpretation boards - this is just trees and paths. But there's something to be said for that. No crowds, no cafe queues, just a bit of Taunton-area woodland doing what it's done for years. Go if you're in the area and want a genuine woodland walk. Skip it if you're specifically hunting for something with more structure or views.
