Walk into Eriswell Wild Flower Meadow on a sunny afternoon and you'll understand why the botanists get excited about this corner of Cambridgeshire. It's a proper working nature reserve just east of Brandon, managing to feel genuinely wild despite being carefully managed. The meadow explodes with colour depending on season - orchids, bird's-foot trefoil, and scores of wildflowers you probably can't name draw bees and butterflies in proper abundance. There's a sense of quiet here that you don't always get at visitor attractions. You're not herded along marked paths or sold ice cream at the entrance. People come to walk, to look, to sit with a notebook if they fancy it. It suits walkers and nature spotters far more than families after an afternoon's entertainment. Kids might enjoy it for twenty minutes or so, but there's no café, no playground, no reason to linger unless you're genuinely into plants or insects. The best time is late spring through summer when everything's in flower. Check ahead before visiting - facilities and access aren't always clear from a distance.
