This works best for anyone with a serious interest in medieval military architecture. Kids might find it a bit thin on entertainment unless they're genuinely keen on castles - there's no visitor centre, no interpretive theatre, just the stones themselves. Allow an hour, maybe less if you're just passing through. Winter visits can be atmospheric when the light's flat and the site feels properly abandoned.
