Emirates Stadium

The home of Arsenal Football Club sits in Holloway, North London, and unless you're a Gunners supporter, it won't mean much. But if you are - or if someone in your group is - this is the sort of place that gets the heart racing before you've even walked through the turnstiles.

The stadium itself holds 60,000 people and opened in 2006, replacing the club's old ground at Highbury. You can tour it on non-match days, which takes you through the changing rooms, down the tunnel, and into the stands. It's genuinely impressive if you care about football architecture. The views from the upper tier are proper extensive - you can see right across North London on a clear day. For young Arsenal fans, this is basically pilgrimage territory.

Match days are obviously the real draw, but tickets aren't cheap and decent seats sell fast. If you're not into football, a stadium tour probably isn't worth the trip on its own, though the surrounding area has decent Turkish restaurants and pubs. The neighbourhood itself is residential rather than touristy.

If you're staying at Lovat Parks, just 4.6 miles away, you could make an afternoon of it with a tour and a wander round the neighbourhood, though you'd want to be Arsenal-minded for it to feel like time well spent. Not really a family day-out unless you've got a child obsessed with the club.
