In spring the bluebells are decent, and year-round you'll spot nuthatches and great spotted woodpeckers if you're lucky. There's a memorial to Nightingale herself, and the whole thing carries the quiet weight of history without being heavy-handed about it.

Historians and nature enthusiasts will get the most from this - it's not a theme park experience. Kids might find it a bit slow unless they're the type keen on spotting wildlife. Allow two to three hours for a proper circuit of the grounds. The walk is gentle and well-maintained, though it can get muddy after rain.
